From ghetto to parliament, Robert Kyagulanyi is now the wunderkind of the whole of Uganda, a dream come true and a hope to many. Best known as Bobi wine,(his stage name) he is a musician since early 2000s with over five awards in the African music industry.
As he declared his intention to contest for Kyadondo East in Wakiso district, the public saw a metamorphosis from a ghetto man with dreadlocks, a Hip hop look and bad boy ways into a gentle man with a clean haircut, a fitting suit and proper English. They then decided to give him their trust.
He overwhelmingly won the Kyadondo East by-election by getting 25, 659 votes on 33,310 total numbers of votes. He became the news maker; he and his wife Barbara Kyagulanyi are on the front pages of all newspapers and magazines.
His swearing in was scheduled for July 11, 2017. A crowd of excited supporters on boda bodas escorted his convoy from Magere to Parliament. Dancing and singing, some holding Ugandan flags and others painted in the flag’s colors to show him their support. On the gate another crowd had gathered to welcome the new Member of Parliament, the police had to intervene.
Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi is a living role model and an inspiration for the youth struggling to make it in life. He is the second Ugandan musician to join the parliament. As he was swearing he promised to preserve, protect and defend the constitution of Uganda and to give faithful services to the parliament, support and uphold the constitution by law established.
